Met Albert, Grayson and now we are seven

The gang walked over to the Durbar Square. I took on the role of being the Indian in the group to help communicate.

The hour long tour was great. Got to learn about a unique tradition where a little girl is selected by the council of Brahmins and Monks as the incarnation of Durga. She goes by the name Kumari.

She will assume this role for a few years till her adolescence upon which she will go back home and a new Kumari takes her place

Evening was our team meeting. Met Harjit, Louise, Ben and Katie. Now we are Eleven. We met up with Jason’s friend Lisa who happened to be in town. She works for SEVA a non-profit working on eradicating curable blindness.

Big surprise to all of us was the weight in our bags. While we came prepared with a budget of 15kgs/33 lbs for the duffle and 10kgs/22 lbs for the backpack, we needed to shed weight and drop it to 10kg and 5kg respectively. It was a but of fun trying to decide what to keep and what to leave. Jason and I got creative with wearing extra clothes, shoving pockets with snacks, wearing heavy jackets. They just want to weigh bags. Between Jason and I we are leaving behind about 16 kgs /35 lbs.

We retired early to bed, woke up 12:30am (again) tossed and turned. We are supposed to be in the lobby at 4:30. Our mode of transportation to Lukla will be a Helicopter. We will miss the crazy airplane landing on the World’s most dangerous airport, but bigger adventures await us.
