Kicking into a high gear: the path to Tyangboche

Oct 18 2023

Last of the laundry got done at Hotel Namche. I got to chat with the hotel care taker’s daughter Tsering. She graduated college, went to Spain for a little then came back to Namche to be with her folks. I complimented Tsering to her Mom. she smiled and said “…she still troubles me“. I said “isn’t that love!!”

six seven eight. I snuck out to buy a jacket learning I did not have an important piece of gear. 8am trail towards Sherpa museum then took left turn to go higher up over Namche.

A couple hours into the hike, got our first view of the big ones: (R-L) Ama Dablam Lhotse, Everest, Tobuche. Nuptse was hidden

Trail took us all the way down to the Dudh Kosi river. We crossed over a hanging bridge to reach our lunch spot. Lunch was simple - carbs: Rice and potatoes. The trek after lunch was a grind: switchbacks going up the mountain heading towards Tyangboche. This was a very hard trek !

I have to correct myself. The correct name is Tyangboche not Tengbouche

We arrived at the Tyangboche gates at 2:45pm reaching altitude of 3,875 meters. Todays hike was 7.5 miles. We have now walked 23 of the 32 miles to EBC. We were welcome by a gentle shower of snow flakes

Staying at Teshi Delek hotel room B104. Amenities are bare. No power in room, basic bed with a blanket. They have an amazing bakery though. We tried Carrot, apple, banana and carrot cake and coffee. Carrot was awesome.

We walked across to the monastry at 4pm. There was a ceremony going on that we got to watch. I learnt that it was the prep for the big ceremony to happen in Nov The sunset bouncing off Ama Dablam and the west face of Thamsekuru was awesome. We are told that this is a great spot for an Everest viewing tomorrow, weather permitting.

Dinner was at 6pm. I had fried Veggie noodles and garlic soup

No altitude headaches. Drinking a lot of water. Taking 3 advils in the morning

Tomorrow we head to Dengboche. Another 7 miler with some steep inclines.

The adventure continues !!
